“Pride (In the Name of Love)”
You know you saw this one coming, right?
U2 was always very socially aware, and their progressive Christian values were very much in keeping with Dr. King’s life and work. Everything I could say about Dr. King has already been said, far better, by others. But like many in the world, I still believe in the nonviolent protest and activism he used to help advance the cause of Civil Rights in this country. I still believe in judging people by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin (or how they pray, or how they vote, or what reproductive parts they possess, or any other superficial factors). And I still believe that we can achieve Dr. King’s dream. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting a lot closer.
So, in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., sing.

I have a funny/embarrassing story about U2. In the early 90′s I used to bowl a lot. I was even part of a bowling team that competed at the national level. I was also in my first year of med school. One of my classmates came to class one day wearing a t-shirt that said U2. Just that, no picture, nothing. So I asked him if he bowled as well. He looked at me like I was deranged. So I pointed at his shirt and said, you’re wearing a U2 shirt, so I thought you were a bowler too. Up until that point, I had never heard of a band called U2. My classmate -of course, had never heard of the state of the art (at that point) bowling ball from the 80′s called U2 that was quite the breakthrough in bowling.
That was embarrassing
That is so awesome! My dad and brother used to be really big bowlers, although I never heard of a U2 bowling ball. The spy plane, yes, but not the bowling ball.
oh yeah…. and there’s the spy plane too!
