Repost: “Shakin'”

Time to cut loose a little!

Eddie Money is kind of a mediocre singer/performer/songwriter, but he always plays to his strengths.  What are those strengths?  Pop-rock from a regular guy’s point of view.  It’s not exactly deep or earth-shattering, but it is fun.  And out of the songs I enjoy by Money, “Shakin’ ” just might be the most fun.  It’s about a guy and a girl out for an illicit ride in her daddy’s car.  One of the most fun things here is the many possibilities of the word shakin’.  It could refer to her dancing or (in the video) the hydraulics in the low riders.  It’s also an obvious euphemism for sex.  And I’m pretty sure that’s what Rosanna and her guy were doing when they “got so high we had to pull to the side.  We did some shakin’ till the middle of the night.”  There’s nothing very important here, just some good old-fashioned adolescent fun.

(The video does feature some unfortunate racial stereotypes about Latinos; in no way do I endorse such stereotypes.  I also feel like I have to point out that drag racing is dangerous, car theft is illegal, and those low riders are pretty lame.)

Ditto the Money trail you weave. So permit me to step into the way-back machine…and acknowledge how I wore out my cassette tape of ‘Baby Hold On’. Thanks for the different view…it’s one of the things I value about you most. Dan
